Raytracing Prototype
A downloadable game for Windows
This is an experimental prototype submitted for "A8 Game Jam - Winter 2020" and is not a playable game yet. It is set up as a first person, 3d game.
Lighting
The lighting works in a unique way. First, all surfaces of this game are black. The lights shoot out a number of rays in random directions each frame. If they hit a surface within their range, they will draw a "decal" on that spot, thereby illuminating the otherwise dark surface.
Each spot hit in this way also creates a reflected ray that will place one more particle of light on another surface.
Finally, lights will produce a more intense reflection based on the player's position and the angle of the wall.
This is a very inefficient approach to lighting a 3D space, but it was interesting to study the calculations involved in this process.
Controls
Use WASD and the mouse to navigate.
Increase or decrease the number of light particles by scrolling the middle mouse wheel.
I will upload the prototype soon.
